How to Prepare Your Home for a Plumbing Appointment
A small amount of preparation before your plumbing or heating appointment can make a real difference to how smoothly the visit goes, particularly where access and clear communication are concerned. Since our charges are time-based, anything that helps the engineer get straight to work also helps keep costs sensible.
This guide covers the practical steps worth taking before an engineer arrives at your home in Wimbledon or the surrounding area, whether the visit is a routine service or an urgent repair.
Clear Access to the Work Area
Whether the job involves a boiler in a kitchen cupboard, a leak under a bathroom sink, or a radiator in a bedroom, clearing furniture, boxes or clutter from around the affected area beforehand allows the engineer to begin diagnosing and working immediately, rather than spending chargeable time moving items themselves.
Know Where Your Stop Tap and Consumer Unit Are
Being able to point an engineer straight to your stop tap and consumer unit, particularly for leak-related jobs, saves valuable time. If you are not sure where either is located, it is worth finding out in advance of your appointment where possible, as this is also useful knowledge to have for any future emergency.
Make a Note of the Symptoms
Before the appointment, jot down what you have noticed: when the issue started, whether it is constant or intermittent, any noises, error codes displayed, or changes in water pressure or temperature. This information helps the engineer diagnose the fault more efficiently rather than starting from scratch.
Ensure Someone Is Available for the Full Window
Appointments are arranged with an estimated arrival window, and having someone available at the property for the full duration avoids delays or the need to rearrange. Please remember that forms submitted online are appointment requests rather than confirmed bookings, so we will always confirm timing with you directly.
Consider Pets
If you have pets, it is worth arranging for them to be in a separate room or securely out of the way during the visit, both for their comfort and to allow the engineer to work without distraction, particularly in tight spaces such as under sinks or inside cupboards.
Have Payment Details Ready
We accept major cards excluding American Express, as well as Apple Pay, so having your preferred payment method ready at the end of the visit helps things conclude smoothly. If you have any questions about pricing structure beforehand, our team at 020 3727 2578 or info@wdigroupltd.co.uk are happy to explain.
What to Do in a Genuine Gas Emergency
If you smell gas or suspect a gas leak, this is not something to wait for an appointment for. Turn off the gas supply at the meter if it is safe to do so, avoid using electrical switches or naked flames, ventilate the area, and contact the National Gas Emergency Service immediately on 0800 111 999.
