Cylinders vary in type and complexity, particularly unvented systems, which operate under mains pressure and include several safety components. The engineer attending will identify the type of cylinder you have before assessing the fault.

Vented and unvented cylinders
Vented cylinders, typically fed from a cold water storage tank, and unvented cylinders, which operate directly from the mains and include safety components such as expansion and pressure relief valves, are diagnosed and repaired somewhat differently. The engineer will confirm which type your property has and work accordingly.
Safety on unvented systems
Because unvented cylinders operate under mains pressure, any work involving their safety components is carried out with particular care and in line with the relevant safety requirements for this type of installation.
Repair or replacement
Faults such as a failed immersion heater, thermostat or valve can usually be repaired. Where a cylinder has a split or significant internal corrosion, replacement is generally the more sensible option, and the engineer will talk through this with you if it applies.
When further parts are needed
Certain cylinder components, particularly for older or less common unvented systems, are not always held as standard stock, so specialist parts or a return visit may occasionally be needed to complete a repair.
What this service costs
Hot water and cylinder repairs are charged at £99 + VAT per hour weekdays 7:30am–5pm, £120 + VAT weekday evenings 5pm–9pm, and £185 + VAT overnight, Sundays and bank holidays, excluding VAT.
A one-hour minimum applies, followed by 30-minute increments, with no separate call-out charge.
Replacement parts and materials we supply carry a 20% mark-up on cost. The engineer will let you know wherever reasonably possible if the job looks likely to exceed the time originally quoted.
