Plumber in Wimbledon

Wimbledon is a mix of Victorian and Edwardian terraces, grand Wimbledon Village houses, converted flats and newer developments around the town centre, and each of those property types tends to throw up its own plumbing quirks. Wimbledon Plumber covers SW19 and the surrounding postcodes with a straightforward approach: turn up, diagnose the problem properly, and explain the options before any work starts.

Whether you're in a period house near the Common with original cast-iron pipework, a converted flat off the Broadway, or a modern build near the station, the plumbing systems behind the walls can be very different. We work on all of them, from a dripping tap in a Wimbledon Village kitchen to a full central heating system in one of the larger South Wimbledon family homes.

Plumbing repairs across Wimbledon

Most calls we get in Wimbledon are for the everyday things: a leaking pipe under a sink, a toilet that won't stop running, a shower that's lost pressure, or a tap that drips no matter how tightly it's turned off. These jobs sound small but can cause real damage if left, particularly in older Wimbledon properties where pipework has been patched up over decades.

We carry a good range of standard fittings and washers on the van, so many repairs can be completed in a single visit. Where a part is unusual — which does happen in some of the older Wimbledon Village houses with non-standard fittings — we'll explain that a specialist part or a short return visit may be needed rather than guessing and fitting the wrong thing.

Leaks and pipework in older Wimbledon homes

A lot of Wimbledon's housing stock is Victorian or Edwardian, and pipework of that age was never designed for modern combi boilers, power showers or multiple bathrooms. It's common to find a mix of copper, old lead offcuts, and more recent plastic pipe all in the same property, and leaks often show up at the joins between them.

If you've spotted a damp patch on a ceiling, a musty smell under floorboards, or a water meter that keeps ticking over when nothing's running, that's usually pipework worth investigating sooner rather than later. We trace leaks methodically rather than opening up walls speculatively, which keeps disruption and cost down.

Taps, toilets and showers

Tap and toilet repairs in Wimbledon range from simple washer replacements to full tap or cistern swaps where the internals have corroded beyond repair — not unusual in properties with older galvanised tanks. Showers are a common one too: mixer showers losing pressure, electric showers tripping, or thermostatic cartridges wearing out after years of hard water use.

We're happy to repair rather than automatically replace where that's realistic, and we'll always say so if a repair genuinely isn't cost-effective compared with a straightforward replacement.

Radiators and central heating

Larger Wimbledon houses, particularly around the Village and the Common, often have bigger heating systems with more radiators, longer pipe runs and older pumps than a typical flat. Leaking radiator valves, cold spots from trapped air or sludge, and uneven heating across a house are all things we deal with regularly.

In South Wimbledon and around Merton Park, we also see plenty of mid-sized family homes where an extra radiator has been added over the years for a loft conversion or extension — sometimes without properly rebalancing the rest of the system, which is worth checking if one room never seems to warm up.

Boiler repairs and servicing

Boiler pressure faults are one of the most common reasons Wimbledon residents call us — a boiler that keeps losing pressure, won't fire up, or displays a fault code. These can come down to something as simple as topping up the system or as involved as a failing part, and we'll talk you through what we find before doing anything.

Regular servicing is worth doing on any boiler, but it matters more in Wimbledon's older properties where a boiler might be feeding a larger, older system than it was originally designed for.

Gas Safe engineers and landlord gas safety certificates

All gas work — boiler repairs, cooker connections, gas fire work — is carried out by appropriately qualified Gas Safe registered engineers. If you're a landlord in Wimbledon, whether that's a single let near the station or a portfolio of flats, we can carry out landlord gas safety checks and issue the relevant certificate once the check is complete.

Property types across SW19

Wimbledon Village's period houses, the flats and conversions around the town centre, and the family housing further into South Wimbledon and Merton Park each need slightly different plumbing thinking. Converted properties in particular sometimes have shared stacks or awkward routing from when a house was split into flats, which is worth bearing in mind if you're chasing an intermittent leak or a noisy pipe.

Pricing and access in Wimbledon

Our weekday rate (Monday to Friday, 7:30am to 5:00pm) is £99 + VAT per hour, with a one-hour minimum and 30-minute increments after that. There's no separate call-out charge. Any materials used carry a 20% mark-up on cost. If we think a job is likely to run over two hours, we'll quote for it wherever reasonably possible rather than leaving you guessing.

We accept major credit and debit cards, plus Apple Pay — we don't currently accept American Express. Parking in Wimbledon can be tight, particularly around the Village and town centre where controlled parking zones operate, so it helps to mention any restrictions when you get in touch so we can plan accordingly.
