We arrange leak detection appointments across Wimbledon and the surrounding areas through this website, operated by WDI Group (Surrey) Ltd. An engineer will visit to try to establish where a suspected leak is coming from and what needs to happen to put it right.
Because leaks can be intermittent or located behind fixed surfaces, tracing the source is not always instant, but a methodical approach on site gives the best chance of identifying the cause without unnecessary disruption.

- Faulty seals on appliances such as washing machines or dishwashers
- Ground movement placing stress on buried supply pipes
- Freezing and thawing causing pipes to crack in colder months
What the engineer may inspect
- The area where symptoms have been reported, such as damp patches or damage
- Accessible pipework for visible signs of leaking or corrosion
- The water meter, to check whether it continues to run with everything off
- Isolation valves and stopcocks and their current condition
- Appliance connections and seals where relevant
- Any recent building work that may have disturbed pipework
- Whether the leak is on the supply side, waste side or heating system
- Whether further exploratory work is required to expose hidden pipework
How leak detection is approached
The engineer will start by discussing what you have noticed and where, then work through a process of elimination using visual inspection, checking accessible pipework and isolating sections of the system where appropriate. In some cases this narrows the leak down quickly; in others it takes a bit more investigation.
When further work is required
Some leaks are hidden behind fixed surfaces such as tiled walls, floors or boxed-in pipework, and tracing them may require careful, limited exposure of the pipe run. Occasionally a return visit or specialist equipment may be needed to pinpoint the exact location, particularly where a leak is intermittent or the pipework is not easily accessible.
Repairing the leak once found
Once the source is identified, the engineer will explain what repair is needed, whether that is resealing a joint, replacing a short section of pipe, or a more involved repair. Any materials supplied carry a 20% mark-up, and the engineer will let you know the likely cost before proceeding.
Protecting your property
If a leak is causing active water ingress, isolating the supply as soon as possible helps limit further damage while an appointment is arranged. Where the leak affects a shared or rented property, letting us know this at the time of booking helps with arranging access appropriately.
What this service costs
Leak detection and repair work is charged at the standard hourly rates: £99 + VAT Monday to Friday 7:30am–5:00pm, £120 + VAT Monday to Friday 5pm–9pm, and £185 + VAT overnight, on Sundays and bank holidays.
There is a one-hour minimum charge, then billing continues in 30-minute increments, with no separate call-out charge and all prices excluding VAT.
Because tracing some leaks can take longer than a simple repair, the engineer will aim to give you an idea of likely time on site and will let you know wherever reasonably possible if the job looks set to exceed the time quoted.
Materials supplied carry a 20% mark-up on cost; customer-supplied materials are not covered by our workmanship or product warranty. We accept all major cards except American Express, plus Apple Pay.
