We arrange tap repair and replacement appointments across Wimbledon and the surrounding areas. Whether it is a kitchen mixer, a bathroom basin tap, or an outside tap that has started leaking, an engineer will assess the fault and explain the options for repairing or replacing it.
Symptoms you may notice
- A steady drip from the spout even when the tap is fully closed

- A tap handle that is stiff, loose or difficult to turn
- Reduced flow or a spluttering stream of water
- Squeaking or grinding noises when the tap is operated

Likely causes
- Worn washers or rubber seals inside the tap mechanism
- A worn or damaged ceramic disc cartridge
- Limescale build-up affecting the internal mechanism
- A loose or deteriorated O-ring at the tap's base
- General wear after many years of everyday use
- Damaged threads or fittings where the tap connects to the pipework
- Incorrect installation of a previous replacement tap
- Corrosion in older brass or chrome-plated fittings
What the engineer may inspect
- Water supply isolation before starting any work on the tap
- The condition of the washer, cartridge or internal mechanism
- The tap's connections to the supply pipework beneath
- Signs of limescale affecting flow or operation
- The condition of flexible hoses on modern mixer taps
- Whether the existing tap body is worth repairing or better replaced
- Any leaking around the base or where it meets the sink or basin
- General water pressure at the outlet
Repair or replace?
Many tap faults come down to a worn washer or cartridge, which can usually be replaced without needing a whole new tap. Where a tap is older, has a discontinued mechanism, or is generally at the end of its working life, replacement is often the more sensible option. The engineer will talk through the choice with you rather than assuming which route to take.
Fitting a new tap
If you are replacing a tap, we can supply and fit a suitable replacement, or fit a tap you have already purchased. Materials we supply carry a 20% mark-up on cost. Please note customer-supplied taps and fittings are not covered by our workmanship or product warranty.
When parts need ordering
Occasionally a specific cartridge or spare part for an older or unusual tap is not something carried as standard, and specialist parts or a return visit may occasionally be needed to complete the repair.
What this service costs
Tap repairs and replacements are charged at the standard hourly rate of £99 + VAT weekdays 7:30am–5:00pm, £120 + VAT weekday evenings 5pm–9pm, and £185 + VAT overnight, Sundays and bank holidays.
A one-hour minimum applies, followed by 30-minute increments, with no separate call-out charge. All prices exclude VAT.
Materials supplied, including replacement taps, carry a 20% mark-up on cost. Where a job looks likely to run over the time originally quoted, the engineer will let you know wherever reasonably possible.
