How Much Does a Plumber Cost in Wimbledon?
One of the most common questions we are asked is simply how much a plumber costs. It is a reasonable thing to want to know before booking anyone into your home, yet many companies are vague about pricing until after a job is done, which understandably makes people nervous. We take a different approach and publish our rates clearly, so you know exactly what to expect before an engineer arrives.
Pricing in plumbing and heating is rarely one-size-fits-all, because the time and materials needed for a blocked toilet are very different from those needed for a full central heating repair. What we can do is explain how our hourly rates work, what affects the overall cost of a job, and roughly what different types of work tend to involve, so you can budget with confidence.
This guide covers our standard rates, how materials are charged, and what tends to influence the final bill for plumbing and heating work across Wimbledon and the surrounding areas.
Our standard hourly rates
We charge £99 + VAT per hour for weekday work carried out between 7:30am and 5:00pm. For evening appointments between 5pm and 9pm, the rate is £120 + VAT per hour, and for overnight work between 9pm and 7:30am, as well as all day on Sundays and bank holidays, the rate is £185 + VAT per hour. All of our prices exclude VAT, and there is a one-hour minimum charge, after which time is billed in 30-minute increments.
Importantly, we do not charge a separate call-out fee on top of these rates. The hourly rate covers the engineer's time from arrival, and wherever it is reasonably possible we will let you know if a job looks likely to exceed the two-hour mark before it does, so there are no surprises.
What affects the cost of a job
The biggest factor in most plumbing jobs is time. A simple tap washer replacement might take well under an hour, while diagnosing an intermittent leak behind a wall could take considerably longer. Access also plays a part, jobs in tight airing cupboards or under low baths generally take longer than the same job in an open utility room.
Materials are the other main cost. We mark up materials by 20% on cost, which covers sourcing, warranting and carrying stock on our vans so that most repairs can be completed on the first visit rather than requiring a return trip. If you would prefer to supply your own materials, you are welcome to do so, though please note these will not be covered by our workmanship or product warranty.
Boiler servicing and gas safety pricing
For anyone budgeting for annual maintenance, a boiler service or Gas Safety Certificate costs £99 + VAT on a weekday, covering up to two appliances with £40 + VAT for each additional appliance. If you need both a service and a certificate, we offer a combined rate of £160 + VAT on weekdays. Landlords in particular find it more convenient to arrange both together each year.
Power flushing and system cleaning
If your heating system is suffering from cold spots, sludge, or poor circulation, a power flush starts from £550 + VAT for systems of up to 10 radiators, while a MagnaCleanse, which uses a magnetic filtration process, starts from £400 + VAT for the same size of system. Larger systems are quoted individually after an inspection.
Why we do not quote fixed prices over the phone
Every home is different, and pipework hidden behind walls or under floors cannot always be assessed accurately without seeing it. That is why our pricing is based on time rather than a flat fee per job, which keeps things fair for straightforward repairs and transparent for more involved ones. It also means you are never paying for time that was not needed.
How payment works
We accept all major credit and debit cards, as well as Apple Pay, though we are unable to accept American Express. Payment is taken once the work is complete, and you will receive a clear breakdown of labour and any materials used.
Booking an appointment
We cover Wimbledon and the surrounding areas including Raynes Park, Wandsworth, and Merton, and same-day appointments may be available, although these cannot always be guaranteed depending on demand. Please note that requests made through our website or contact forms are appointment requests rather than confirmed bookings, and we will confirm a time with you directly by phone or email.
